BigDog: The Headless Robot Dog
BigDog looks sort of like a dog, but it has no head. This 250-pound robot designed by Boston Dynamics is capable of carrying 340 lbs over very difficult terrain. The developer hopes BigDog will eventually be used to facilitate carrying gear for ground troops. Boston Dynamics reported that BigDog walked a record 12.8 miles on its own with the use of a GPS. Kristina Grifantini reports on BigDog in Technology Review. A video of BigDog in action accompanies the report.
